Email from Maurice Allen Enderle

Herman was my grandfather. He had only one son, my father, Maurice Frank Enderle. My dads mother died before he married my mother. My brother, Wallace Owens Enderle, was born in 1926 and I in 1928. He has two sons and I have three. When I was very young my grandfather, Herman, his brother Frank Enderle, his sisters, Clara Enderle, Matilda Enderle and Rose Shaner-a widow-lived in the same house in Orange County. The mailing address was Santa Ana but the house was closer to Tustin than to Santa Ana and is now in the City of Tustin . When Herman moved to Santa Ana , where their first home was, he had a foundry that did all kinds of casting, lath work, making tools, machines, even engines. He cast the first engine for Glenn Martin who founded the Martin Aircraft Company which was once one of the largest in the country. Herman built the ranch house, the one now in Tustin, in 1904 on 20 acres he had purchased to plant orange trees on thus I was raised in an orange grove as my dads first, and only, home was 800 feet to the north of the ranch house with both of them facing Yorba street. My brother, Wallace, is a West Point graduate and made a career of the U.S. Army. I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis . I volunteered to graduate into the U.S. Air Force where I stayed for a total time of 8 years. I should add that Frank Enderle purchased a ten acre piece just north of Hermanís and, in later years, my mother purchased another ten acres east of Franks giving our family a total of 40 acres of oranges. It was a great life and a great place to grow up around.
