Joseph Dunz emigrated from Bremen on the ship President Harding and arrived on November 21, 1924 in New York. He was a tailor. Joseph’s first wife Anna Brunner died 1912 in Durmersheim. Joseph’s second wife Franziska Martin emigrated, to join her husband, from Bremen on the ship Columbus. She arrived on July 2, 1925 in New York. On the same ship were their children Gertrud, Hedwig and Katharina Dunz. All girls had brown hair and brown eyes, like their mother. Franziska's closest relative was Katharina Bastian, Kaiserstrasse 166, Durmersheim, Baden, Germany.

Joseph Dunz, tailor in Cape passes away. Rites to be Monday.

Joseph Dunz ….south pacific street, a tailor for 48 years and in Cape Girardeau since… died at Friday afternoon in a hospital here. Mr. Dunz was admitted to the hospital a week ago and underwent surgery. Mr. Dunz leaves his wife Frances Dunz, a son John Dunz at home, three daughters Mrs Harold Evans, Ms Hedwig Dunz and Mrs Emil Koenig both at home,

Funeral service will be.. at 9 am Monday St.Mary’s church with referend James....of St.Vincents college in charge. Interment will be in St.Mary’s cemetery. Mr Dunz was born in Baden, Germany on February 16, 1884, the youngest of five brothers and a sister. He was married to Frances Martin on June 26, 1912 in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Mr Dunz was taught the tailoring business by his father and his brothers…

Gertrude F. Evans, age 90, passed away Friday, April 25, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 AM, Monday at the church, followed by interment in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Evans was born March 18, 1913 at Baden, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Martin Dunz. On June 9, 1938 she married Joseph Harold “Slim” Evans. He passed away March 13, 1985. Loving Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Annie Evans and Mike and Joan Evans of Jackson; two daughters and one son-in-law, JoFrances Evans of Jackson, and Pat and Larry Kaempfer of Cape Girardeau; one brother, John Dunz of Poplar Bluff; two sisters Hedwig Dunz and Katie Koenig both of Gordonville; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Evans was a former resident of Cape Girardeau, she and her husband moved to Jackson in 1968. She was employed at J C Penneys in Cape Girardeau as a seamstress from 1956-1971. Mrs. Evans was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson since 1968. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the J C Penneys Retirees Group. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Immaculate Conception Church as a Mass, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Kathryn E. Koenig, 86, of Gordonville died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Jackson Manor in Jackson. She was born in Germany, daughter of Joseph and Frances Martin Dunz. She and Emil F. Koenig were married June 12, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. Koenig was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Survivors include her husband, Emil F. Koenig of Gordonville; a son, Ronald J. Koenig of Jackson; three daughters, Jean Frances Dudley and husband John of Burfordville, Debra Brown and husband Kerry of Oak Ridge, Cathy Lynn Thompson and husband Clifford of Gordonville; a brother, John W. Dunz and wife Wanda of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a sister, Hedy Dunz of Gordonville; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a sister and a daughter-in-law. There will be no public services held. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 9374 Olive Street Road, St. Louis, Missouri.
